A good friend of mine and great defender of animals has recently decided to challenge herself with running the ING Miami Marathon. 26.2 miles exhausts me just to say it let alone run it, but in the spirit of the challenge she has gone one step further in the hopes of raising money for an excellent cause. Big Hearts for Big Dogs Rescue is a non-profit started by a couple of determined young ladies in South Florida who were looking for a way to help the bully breeds that are so misunderstood. In Miami-Dade county it is illegal to own a bully breed, and if they are brought into the shelter they are euthanized because of an ignorant law (bully breeds are the number one breed killed in shelters each year). They are the most misunderstood animal, which is incredibly sad because they really are among the sweetest!! BHBDR works to pull these animals from shelters where they will be killed, and find loving homes for them anywhere they can through what is known as the Underground Dog Railroad. They're an amazing bunch of people, and I highly encourage you to learn more about their organization here: BHBDR
And if you're feeling in the holiday spirit and would like to help a passionate & caring woman reach her goals, you can do so here: Run for the Dogs
